The Tension Test & The Stress–Strain Diagram
The Tension Test & The Stress–Strain Diagram. Several mechanical properties of a material can be determined from the tension test; i.e. the Poisson’s ratio and the the modulus of elasticity (Young’s modulus). The results from this test, called the stress–strain diagram, is a plot obtained from the load, corresponding deformation, the specimen’s original cross section area and the specimen’s gauge length.
